Description
TobraDex is a combination ophthalmic suspension containing tobramycin (an aminoglycoside antibiotic) and dexamethasone (a corticosteroid), used to treat bacterial eye infections accompanied by inflammation. Tobramycin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis to eliminate susceptible organisms, while dexamethasone suppresses the inflammatory response, reducing redness, swelling, and discomfort. It is indicated for conditions where both infection control and anti-inflammatory therapy are needed simultaneously, such as post-operative ocular care or conjunctivitis with significant inflammation. The suspension is administered as eye drops, typically 1–2 drops every 4–6 hours, and should be used with caution in patients with fungal infections, viral conditions like herpes simplex, or a history of elevated intraocular pressure.
