Description
Ophth-Atropine (Atropine Sulfate) Eye Drops
Ophth-Atropine is an ophthalmic antimuscarinic agent that works by blocking the chemical acetylcholine, which relaxes the ciliary muscle of the eye and causes the pupil to dilate — producing both mydriasis (pupil widening) and cycloplegia (paralysis of the focusing muscle). It is used to immobilize the iris and ciliary muscle in the treatment of iritis and uveitis, to prevent or break down adhesions inside the eye, and to aid in the diagnosis of refractive errors in children — particularly those with convergent strabismus or amblyopia (lazy eye). It is also used before eye examinations to dilate the pupil and to relieve pain caused by swelling and inflammation of the eye, with effects such as blurred vision and light sensitivity potentially lasting up to two weeks after instillation.
