Description

Ventolin Syrup contains Salbutamol 2mg/5mL as a sugar-free oral formulation, providing a convenient and palatable bronchodilator preparation particularly suited for pediatric patients, elderly individuals, and those who are unable to use inhaler devices effectively, offering systemic bronchodilation through the oral route. It works by selectively stimulating beta-2 adrenergic receptors in the bronchial smooth muscle, promoting smooth muscle relaxation, airway widening, and relief of bronchospasm, while also inhibiting the release of bronchoconstricting mediators such as histamine from mast cells, providing both immediate symptomatic relief and a degree of anti-inflammatory benefit. It is indicated for the treatment and prevention of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, and other obstructive airway diseases, with the sugar-free formulation making it especially appropriate for diabetic patients, children prone to dental caries, and those on calorie-restricted diets requiring long-term bronchodilator therapy. The usual adult dose is 5–10mL (2–4mg) three to four times daily, while the pediatric dose is weight-based typically at 0.1mg/kg/dose; side effects include fine tremors, palpitations, tachycardia, nervousness, and headache, which are generally dose-dependent and transient in nature.
