Ponstan (Mefenamic Acid)

Description

Ponstan (Mefenamic Acid) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) widely used to relieve mild to moderate pain, inflammation, and fever associated with conditions such as dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain), headache, dental pain, musculoskeletal disorders, and postoperative pain. It works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins responsible for pain, inflammation, and fever. Particularly effective in the management of primary dysmenorrhea, it is available in capsule and suspension form and is typically taken with food to minimize gastrointestinal side effects. It should be used with caution in patients with peptic ulcer disease, renal impairment, or asthma, and is generally not recommended for use beyond 7 days without medical supervision.
