ESSO 40 L.V (Esomeprazole)

Description

Esso 40 LV (Esomeprazole 40mg IV) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) administered intravenously, indicated when oral therapy is not feasible, providing rapid and potent suppression of gastric acid secretion. It works by irreversibly binding to and inhibiting the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase enzyme (proton pump) on the parietal cells of the gastric mucosa, effectively reducing both basal and stimulated acid production. It is indicated for the management of peptic ulcer bleeding, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, severe erosive esophagitis, stress ulcer prophylaxis in critically ill patients, and as part of H. pylori eradication regimens. It is generally well tolerated with headache, nausea, and diarrhea being common side effects, while long-term use is associated with hypomagnesemia, vitamin B12 deficiency, and increased risk of Clostridioides difficile infection.
