Description
Ulsanic Syrup contains Sucralfate 1g/5mL as a suspension formulation, offering the same cytoprotective and mucosal-protective benefits as the tablet form but in a liquid presentation that is particularly advantageous for patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets, including the elderly, pediatric patients, and those with esophageal conditions. Upon ingestion, Sucralfate reacts with gastric acid to form a thick, adhesive gel that coats and adheres to the ulcerated or inflamed mucosal surfaces of the stomach and duodenum, providing a physical barrier against the damaging effects of hydrochloric acid, pepsin, and bile salts, while simultaneously stimulating mucosal defense mechanisms including prostaglandin and mucus secretion. It is indicated for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, reflux esophagitis, stress ulcer prophylaxis, and is especially useful in critically ill or tube-fed patients where the suspension form allows easy administration via nasogastric tubes. The syrup is typically administered as 10mL (2g) four times daily — one hour before each meal and at bedtime — on an empty stomach for optimal efficacy, and being minimally absorbed systemically, it remains one of the safest anti-ulcer preparations with constipation being the most commonly reported side effect.
