Description

Fluanxol Depot (Cis(Z)-Flupentixol Decanoate) is a long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotic belonging to the thioxanthene class, used in the maintenance treatment of schizophrenia and other chronic psychotic disorders. The decanoate ester formulation is dissolved in vegetable oil and administered intramuscularly, providing a slow, sustained release of active flupentixol over 2–4 weeks, improving medication adherence. It works by blocking dopamine D1 and D2 receptors, as well as having some serotonin receptor antagonism, reducing positive symptoms like hallucinations and delusions. It is particularly beneficial for patients with poor compliance on oral antipsychotics.
