Description

Clopixol Depot (Zuclopenthixol Decanoate) is a long-acting injectable (LAI) typical antipsychotic belonging to the thioxanthene class, indicated for the maintenance treatment of schizophrenia and other chronic psychotic disorders. It works by blocking dopamine D1 and D2 receptors in the brain, reducing positive symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, and thought disorganization. Administered via deep intramuscular injection every 2–4 weeks, it ensures medication adherence in patients who are non-compliant with oral therapy. Common side effects include extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS), sedation, and weight gain, and it should be used cautiously in elderly patients due to increased risk of cerebrovascular events.
