Description
Vermox Oral Suspension contains Mebendazole 100mg/5mL as a palatable liquid formulation of the broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic, specifically designed for pediatric patients, elderly individuals, and those who have difficulty swallowing tablets, offering the same therapeutic efficacy as the tablet form in a more convenient and easily administrable presentation. Like its tablet counterpart, it works by irreversibly binding to parasitic beta-tubulin, inhibiting microtubule formation, disrupting glucose uptake and glycogen depletion in the worms, ultimately causing their immobilization and death, while being minimally absorbed systemically, ensuring targeted action within the gastrointestinal tract with minimal side effects. It is indicated for the treatment of pinworm (Enterobius vermicularis), roundworm (Ascaris lumbricoides), whipworm (Trichuris trichiura), hookworm (Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus), and mixed intestinal helminth infestations, with the suspension form being particularly advantageous for accurate weight-based dosing in young children. The standard dose is 5mL (100mg) as a single dose for pinworm, repeated after 2 weeks, or 5mL twice daily for 3 consecutive days for other worm infestations; the suspension should be well shaken before use, is generally well tolerated, and remains contraindicated in pregnancy, especially during the first trimester, due to potential teratogenic risks.
