Description
Ventolin Evohaler contains Salbutamol 100mcg per actuation delivered via a pressurized metered-dose inhaler (pMDI), providing rapid and targeted bronchodilation directly to the airways with minimal systemic side effects, making it the most widely used short-acting beta-2 agonist (SABA) rescue inhaler globally. It works by selectively stimulating beta-2 adrenergic receptors in the bronchial smooth muscle, leading to activation of adenyl cyclase, increased cyclic AMP (cAMP) production, and subsequent rapid relaxation of airway smooth muscle, resulting in bronchodilation within 3–5 minutes with effects lasting 4–6 hours. It is indicated for the relief and prevention of bronchospasm in patients with bronchial asthma, exercise-induced asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), used both as an acute rescue medication during attacks and as prophylaxis before exposure to known triggers such as exercise or allergens. The standard adult dose is 1–2 puffs (100–200mcg) as needed, not exceeding 8 puffs in 24 hours; overuse or increasing frequency of use is a clinical indicator of poorly controlled asthma requiring urgent medical review, and side effects include fine skeletal muscle tremor, tachycardia, palpitations, and mild hypokalemia with excessive use.
