Description
Treatan contains Candesartan Cilexetil, a selective angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that works by competitively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT₁ receptors in vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland, resulting in vasodilation, reduced aldosterone secretion, and consequently lowering of blood pressure. It is primarily indicated for the management of hypertension (high blood pressure) and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, and also offers renoprotective benefits in patients with diabetic nephropathy by reducing proteinuria and slowing the progression of kidney disease. Administered orally once daily, the usual starting dose is 8mg, which may be titrated up to a maximum of 32mg depending on the patient’s blood pressure response and tolerability. Treatan is generally well tolerated with a favorable side effect profile; however, it is strictly contraindicated in pregnancy due to fetotoxicity, and caution is required in patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis, hyperkalemia, or severe hepatic impairment.
