Description
Emkit (Levonorgestrel is a progestogen-only emergency contraceptive pill (ECP) used to prevent unintended pregnancy when taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse, with efficacy declining significantly beyond this window. It works primarily by inhibiting or delaying ovulation, and may also alter cervical mucus viscosity and endometrial receptivity, thereby reducing the likelihood of fertilization and implantation. It is not intended for regular contraceptive use and has no efficacy if implantation has already occurred, and is therefore not considered abortifacient. It is generally well tolerated with transient side effects including nausea, irregular bleeding, headache, and breast tenderness, and is available over the counter without prescription in most countries.
