DUODART (Dutasteride + Tamsulosin)

Duodart (Dutasteride 0.5mg + Tamsulosin 0.4mg) is a fixed-dose combination used in the management of moderate to severe symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Dutasteride is a dual 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that reduces dihydrotestosterone (DHT) production, thereby shrinking prostate volume over time, while tamsulosin is a selective alpha-1 adrenoceptor blocker that relaxes smooth muscle in the prostate and bladder neck to improve urinary flow rapidly. The combination addresses both the static (structural) and dynamic (functional) components of bladder outlet obstruction, offering superior symptom relief compared to either agent alone. Common side effects include decreased libido, ejaculatory dysfunction, gynecomastia, and orthostatic hypotension, particularly during initiation.
