Description
Disprin (Aspirin) is a salicylate-class NSAID that works by irreversibly inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis and thromboxane A₂-mediated platelet aggregation. At low doses (75–150mg), it is widely used as an antiplatelet agent for the prevention of cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke in high-risk patients. At higher doses, it provides analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory effects for conditions like headache, fever, and musculoskeletal pain. Key concerns include GI irritation and bleeding risk, and it is contraindicated in children under 16 due to the risk of Reye’s syndrome.
