Description
Genticyn Injection (Gentamicin) is an aminoglycoside antibiotic administered intravenously or intramuscularly to treat serious gram-negative bacterial infections including septicemia, meningitis, urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, and intra-abdominal infections. It works by irreversibly binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis and ultimately causing bacterial cell death. Gentamicin is particularly effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli, Klebsiella, and Proteus species, often used in combination with beta-lactam antibiotics for synergistic effect. Due to its potential nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity, renal function monitoring and therapeutic drug monitoring are essential during treatment.
