Description

Fonaz (Fluconazole for Oral Suspension) is an antifungal preparation belonging to the triazole class, formulated as a powder for reconstitution into an oral suspension, making it particularly suitable for pediatric patients and adults who have difficulty swallowing capsules. It works by inhibiting the fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme 14-α-demethylase, thereby blocking the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane, leading to cell death. It is commonly used to treat oropharyngeal and esophageal candidiasis, systemic candidiasis, cryptococcal meningitis, and tinea infections. The suspension form allows precise weight-based dosing in children and offers good oral bioavailability comparable to the tablet formulation.
