Xyloaid® Jelly (Lidocaine HCI)

Description

Xyloaid Jelly contains Lidocaine Hydrochloride 2% as a sterile, water-soluble topical local anesthetic gel formulation manufactured by Barrett Hodgson Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd., designed specifically for surface anesthesia and lubrication of mucous membranes and body cavities during various medical, urological, and endoscopic procedures, providing rapid onset of local anesthesia within 3–5 minutes of application with effects lasting approximately 20–30 minutes. It works by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels in the neuronal membranes of the applied surface, inhibiting the initiation and propagation of nerve impulses, thereby producing complete topical anesthesia with simultaneous lubrication that facilitates smooth and comfortable insertion of medical instruments such as urinary catheters, endoscopes, nasogastric tubes, and laryngoscopes without pain or discomfort to the patient. It is primarily indicated for urethral anesthesia and lubrication prior to catheterization and cystoscopy, lubrication of endotracheal tubes, nasogastric tube insertion, proctoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, anesthesia of the oral and nasal mucosa, and as a topical anesthetic for painful mucosal lesions and minor procedures involving mucous membranes in urology, gastroenterology, and anesthesiology. Xyloaid Jelly should be applied in the minimum effective amount, with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment, heart block, or known hypersensitivity to amide-type local anesthetics, and excessive application over large mucosal surfaces should be avoided to prevent systemic absorption leading to CNS toxicity, cardiovascular depression, and methemoglobinemia in susceptible individuals.
