Description

Xcept Tablets contain Rivaroxaban, a direct oral Factor Xa inhibitor (DOAC/NOAC) representing the local/generic brand of Rivaroxaban available in Pakistan, offering the same mechanism of action as the originator brand Xarelto — selectively and reversibly inhibiting both free Factor Xa and Factor Xa within the prothrombinase complex, thereby interrupting the coagulation cascade at a critical point, suppressing thrombin generation, and preventing fibrin clot formation without requiring routine INR monitoring, frequent dose adjustments, or the dietary restrictions associated with Vitamin K antagonists like Warfarin. It is indicated for the prevention and treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), stroke prevention in non-valvular atrial fibrillation, VTE prophylaxis following hip and knee replacement surgery, and reduction of major cardiovascular events in patients with established coronary artery disease or peripheral artery disease, covering the full therapeutic spectrum of Rivaroxaban indications. Available in strengths of 10mg, 15mg, and 20mg, dosing is indication-specific — 10mg once daily for post-surgical VTE prophylaxis, 15mg twice daily for 21 days followed by 20mg once daily for acute DVT/PE treatment, and 20mg once daily with evening meal for atrial fibrillation stroke prevention — providing a convenient and flexible fixed-dose oral anticoagulation option across multiple clinical settings. Xcept should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment, hepatic dysfunction, and significant bleeding risk, remains strictly contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation, and requires vigilant monitoring for bleeding complications, with the serious risk of major hemorrhage being the most clinically significant adverse effect requiring prompt medical attention.
