Xatral LP contains Alfuzosin Hydrochloride 10mg as a prolonged-release (LP — Libération Prolongée) tablet manufactured by Sanofi, belonging to the class of selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blockers that works by selectively blocking alpha-1 adrenoceptors in the smooth muscle of the prostate, bladder neck, and urethra, causing relaxation of these structures and thereby reducing urethral resistance and improving urine flow without significantly affecting bladder contractility or systemic blood pressure at therapeutic doses. Unlike non-selective alpha-blockers, Alfuzosin demonstrates uroselectivity due to its preferential distribution to prostatic tissue, producing effective relief of both obstructive and irritative lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with a favorable cardiovascular safety profile compared to other alpha-blockers.
