Description

Wintogeno contains Methyl Salicylate 12.7% (also known as Wintergreen Oil) combined with Menthol, formulated as a topical counterirritant and rubefacient NSAID balm/cream that provides effective local relief from pain and inflammation by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis at the site of application and simultaneously stimulating sensory nerve endings in the skin, creating a characteristic warming sensation followed by a cooling effect that distracts from deeper musculoskeletal pain. It works through a dual mechanism — Methyl Salicylate acts as a salicylate derivative that suppresses local inflammatory mediators and improves blood circulation to the affected area, while Menthol activates cold-sensitive receptors (TRPM8 channels) in the skin, producing a soothing cooling sensation that further enhances the analgesic effect and reduces the perception of pain in underlying muscles and joints. It is indicated for the temporary relief of muscle cramps, joint pain, backache, lumbago, sciatica, sprains, strains, stiffness, shoulder and neck pain, headache, and chest colds, making it a versatile topical pain relief preparation widely used across all age groups in both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. Applied by gently rubbing over the painful area 2–3 times daily, Wintogeno should be used on intact skin only, kept away from eyes and mucous membranes, and is contraindicated in children under 2 years and patients with salicylate hypersensitivity, with caution advised against applying over large body surface areas to prevent systemic salicylate absorption.
