Voltral Emuigel (Diclofenac Diethylamine)

Description

Voltral Emulgel contains Diclofenac Diethylamine 1.16% (equivalent to Diclofenac Sodium 1%), a topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) uniquely formulated as an emulgel — a combination of emulsion and gel — that enhances skin penetration and drug delivery to the underlying inflamed tissues, providing targeted local anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects with minimal systemic absorption and side effects. It works by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes at the site of application, thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins, prostacyclins, and thromboxanes responsible for pain, inflammation, swelling, and local heat, while the emulgel base provides a cooling and soothing sensation upon application that further contributes to pain relief. It is indicated for the local symptomatic relief of pain and inflammation in acute soft tissue injuries, sprains, strains, sports injuries, tendinitis, bursitis, periarthritis, and localized forms of rheumatic conditions such as osteoarthritis of superficial joints like the knee and finger joints, making it particularly popular among athletes and physically active individuals. Applied topically 3–4 times daily by gently massaging a small amount into the affected area, Voltral Emulgel is well tolerated locally; however, it should not be applied to broken skin, open wounds, or mucous membranes, and prolonged use over large skin areas should be avoided to minimize the risk of systemic absorption and associated NSAID-related adverse effects.
