Description
Ventolin Tablets contain Salbutamol Sulphate 2mg and 4mg as an oral bronchodilator formulation, providing sustained systemic relief of bronchospasm in patients with chronic obstructive airway diseases where inhaler therapy alone may be insufficient or when patients require around-the-clock bronchodilator coverage. It works by selectively activating beta-2 adrenergic receptors in the bronchial smooth muscle, triggering a cascade of intracellular events involving adenyl cyclase activation and increased cyclic AMP production, resulting in smooth muscle relaxation, bronchodilation, and relief of airway obstruction, while also offering some degree of inhibition of mediator release from pulmonary mast cells. It is indicated for the symptomatic relief of bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and other bronchospastic conditions, and is particularly useful in patients who cannot coordinate inhaler use effectively, such as young children, the elderly, or those with physical disabilities, as well as in nocturnal asthma where sustained oral bronchodilation is beneficial. The usual adult dose is 2–4mg three to four times daily, which may be cautiously increased to a maximum of 8mg four times daily if necessary; common side effects include fine skeletal muscle tremor, palpitations, tachycardia, peripheral vasodilation, headache, and mild hypokalemia, with caution advised in patients with cardiovascular disorders, hyperthyroidism, and diabetes mellitus.
