Description
Ventolin Expectorant is a sugar-free combination syrup containing Salbutamol Sulphate (a short-acting beta-2 adrenergic bronchodilator) and Guaiphenesin (an expectorant), working synergistically to provide both bronchodilation and mucolytic relief in respiratory conditions characterized by bronchospasm and excessive mucus production. Salbutamol selectively stimulates beta-2 receptors in the bronchial smooth muscle, causing rapid relaxation and widening of the airways, while Guaiphenesin reduces the viscosity and surface tension of tenacious mucus secretions, facilitating their clearance through ciliary action and productive coughing, thereby relieving chest congestion. It is indicated for the management of bronchial asthma, acute and chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other obstructive airway diseases where both bronchospasm and mucus hypersecretion coexist, and the sugar-free formulation makes it particularly suitable for diabetic patients and those requiring long-term therapy. Administered orally as 5–10mL three to four times daily in adults, common side effects include fine tremors, palpitations, tachycardia, and headache primarily attributable to the Salbutamol component, while the sugar-free base ensures it is safe for patients with glucose intolerance and dental concerns.
