Description
Ulsanic contains Sucralfate, a locally acting cytoprotective anti-ulcer agent that works through a unique non-systemic mechanism — in the acidic environment of the stomach, it forms a viscous, paste-like substance that selectively binds to ulcer craters and damaged mucosal tissue, creating a protective barrier against acid, pepsin, and bile salts, thereby promoting ulcer healing. It also stimulates the secretion of prostaglandins, mucus, and bicarbonate, further enhancing the natural mucosal defense mechanisms of the gastric lining without significantly altering gastric acid secretion or systemic pH. Ulsanic is primarily indicated for the treatment and maintenance therapy of duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stress ulcer prophylaxis in critically ill patients, and erosive gastritis. Administered orally as tablets (typically 1g four times daily, one hour before meals and at bedtime), Sucralfate is minimally absorbed systemically, making it extremely safe with very few side effects, the most common being constipation, and it is considered particularly suitable for use in pregnancy, the elderly, and patients requiring long-term ulcer management.
