Description
TOBREX is a sterile ophthalmic solution containing tobramycin 0.3%, a broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic indicated for the treatment of external bacterial infections of the eye and its adnexa, including conjunctivitis, blepharitis, and keratitis caused by susceptible organisms. It works by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis and leading to bacterial cell death. Unlike TobraDex, it contains no corticosteroid component, making it suitable for use in pure bacterial infections where inflammation management is not required. It is administered as 1–2 drops every 4 hours in mild-to-moderate infections, or more frequently in severe cases, and is generally well tolerated with minimal systemic absorption.
