Sporanox (Itraconazole)

Description

Sporanox is a globally recognized antifungal brand originally developed by Janssen Pharmaceutica (Johnson & Johnson), Belgium, and manufactured in Pakistan by Aspin Pharma (Pvt.) Ltd., Karachi, containing Itraconazole 100mg as the active ingredient, belonging to the Triazole Antifungal class of medications. It exerts its antifungal activity primarily through inhibition of ergosterol synthesis by binding to the cytochrome P450 enzyme lanosterol 14α-demethylase, disrupting the fungal cell membrane structure and function, leading to impaired membrane integrity and ultimately fungal cell death, without significantly affecting mammalian cells. Sporanox is indicated for treating a broad spectrum of serious fungal infections, especially those caused by Aspergillus and Candida species, including aspergillosis, blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, onychomycosis (nail fungus), and systemic candidiasis, and should always be taken with a full meal to ensure optimal absorption.
