Description

Polyfax Skin Ointment (Polymyxin B + Bacitracin) is a topical antibiotic preparation used to treat and prevent bacterial skin infections such as infected wounds, burns, cuts, abrasions, and impetigo. It combines Polymyxin B, which targets gram-negative bacteria by disrupting their cell membranes, and Bacitracin, which inhibits cell wall synthesis in gram-positive bacteria, together providing broad-spectrum antibacterial coverage. Applied directly to the affected skin area, it is minimally absorbed systemically, ensuring effective local action with a low risk of systemic side effects. It should be avoided on large open wounds or used for prolonged periods without medical supervision, as overuse may lead to bacterial resistance or skin sensitization.
