Description

Plavix (Clopidogrel) is an antiplatelet medication used to prevent blood clots in patients with a history of heart attack, stroke, or peripheral artery disease, as well as in those with acute coronary syndrome or following coronary stent placement. It works by irreversibly inhibiting the P2Y12 ADP receptor on platelets, thereby reducing platelet aggregation and preventing thrombotic events. Often prescribed alone or in combination with aspirin as dual antiplatelet therapy, it plays a critical role in reducing the risk of major cardiovascular events. It should be used with caution in patients with bleeding disorders, peptic ulcers, or those undergoing surgery, as it significantly increases the risk of bleeding.
