Description

Mucaine is an antacid-anesthetic combination suspension containing oxethazaine (a topical local anesthetic) along with aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide. Oxethazaine uniquely provides surface analgesia to the esophageal and gastric mucosa, relieving pain and burning even in an acidic environment, while the antacids neutralize excess stomach acid. It is primarily used to treat heartburn, esophagitis, gastritis, peptic ulcer pain, and hiatus hernia symptoms. The dual action of acid neutralization and mucosal anesthesia makes it particularly effective for providing rapid symptomatic relief in painful upper GI conditions.
