Description
Lukodermine Tablets (Methoxsalen) is a psoralen compound used in combination with ultraviolet A (UVA) light therapy, known as PUVA (Psoralen + UVA) therapy, for the treatment of vitiligo, psoriasis, and other pigmentation disorders of the skin. It works by absorbing UVA radiation and forming photoadducts with DNA in skin cells, stimulating melanocyte proliferation and migration into depigmented areas, thereby promoting repigmentation in vitiligo, while in psoriasis it inhibits abnormal keratinocyte proliferation and reduces scaling and plaque formation. Administered orally one to two hours before UVA light exposure, it acts as a photosensitizing agent that enhances the therapeutic effect of UVA radiation on affected skin areas, requiring careful dosing and controlled light exposure to achieve optimal results. Due to its photosensitizing properties, patients are advised to wear UVA-protective sunglasses and avoid sun exposure for several hours after ingestion, and regular ophthalmological and dermatological monitoring is recommended during prolonged PUVA therapy.
