Description
Flagyl (Metronidazole) is a nitroimidazole antibiotic and antiprotozoal agent used to treat infections caused by anaerobic bacteria and certain parasites, including Trichomonas, Giardia, and Entamoeba. It works by disrupting DNA synthesis in susceptible organisms, leading to cell death. Commonly prescribed for bacterial vaginosis, C. difficile colitis, intra-abdominal infections, and H. pylori eradication (as part of combination therapy). It should be avoided with alcohol due to a disulfiram-like reaction.
