Description
Exforge HCT (Amlodipine 5mg/10mg + Valsartan 160mg/320mg + Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg/25mg) is a triple fixed-dose combination antihypertensive that targets three complementary mechanisms of blood pressure regulation simultaneously. Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker causing peripheral vasodilation, valsartan is an ARB blocking the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), and hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic reducing plasma volume through natriuresis. This triple combination is indicated for hypertension not adequately controlled on dual therapy, offering superior blood pressure reduction with improved patient compliance through single daily tablet dosing. Common side effects include peripheral edema (amlodipine), hyperkalemia and renal impairment (valsartan), and hypokalemia, hyponatremia, and hyperuricemia (hydrochlorothiazide), requiring periodic electrolyte and renal function monitoring.
