DUAC GEL Stiefel / GSK (Clindamycin)

Description

Duac Gel (Clindamycin 1% + Benzoyl Peroxide 5%) is a topical combination preparation used in the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris. Clindamycin exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, while benzoyl peroxide acts as an oxidizing agent with potent bactericidal activity against Propionibacterium acnes and also helps reduce comedone formation and excess sebum. The combination is particularly advantageous as benzoyl peroxide significantly reduces the risk of clindamycin-induced bacterial resistance, a major concern with antibiotic monotherapy. It is applied once daily to affected areas and is generally well tolerated, with local dryness, erythema, and peeling being the most commonly reported side effects.
